A Fisherman of Halicarnassus

Halikarnas Balıkçısı, father of the blue cruise, the homer of Bodrum.The man with eyes the color of the sea, sentenced to a three year exile in Bodrum, transformed his exile into freedom, and the blue and green into poetry.He stayed at the place of exile even after his sentence was completed, settled down in his beloved paradise of Bodrum and lived there until 1947.

His real name is Cevat Şakir, but they called him Halikarnas Balıkçısı(The fisherman of Halicarnassus).This is the name he is known by.He embellished Bodrum, which he called the land of vast skies, with the flowers and trees he planted, poems he composed, novels he wrote.Halikarnas balıkçısı is the most poetic exile Bodrum has ever seen.

The wise philosopher of Anatolia pioneered Anatolia’s contemporary enlightenment and the recognition of its civilization in the world.The sea cruises he went on with Azra Erhat, Sabahattin Eyüpoğlu and his friends, became known as the “blue cruise” in the travel literature.

A blue cruise in Turkey begins with the intention to get to know the early civilizztions on the shores of the mediterranean and the Aegean.The purpose of the cruise through Gökova bay, Marmaris and Antalya is to reconnect people with nature and to present the geography with the heritage of culturel treasures amongst the beauty of nature.This cruise has gained worldwide fame ever since it first started.
